The #1 ranked 4A Minnetonka Skippers (2-0) jumped all over the defending State Champion Wayzata Trojans (4-1) Baseball team on Friday evening 9-2. Aaron Brush went 4 for 4 with a home run to lead the skippers.
Minnetonka (4-0) has to win the Bay Bell sometimes–it’s the law of averages. Wayzata has won the traveling trophy so often in recent years–10 out of 13 times, the Skippers were due.
Add to the law of averages unforced errors in three out of four games and it is clear why Wayzata is having a tough season. After the contest, Head Coach Brad Anderson called the game a team loss according to a Star Tribune article.
One of the highlights for the team was a pass from sophomore QB Keaton Heide to Brandon Bluford for a 71 yard scoring play to make the game 7-3 in favor of the Trojans in the 2nd quarter.
Unfortunately, little else would go right for the Trojans the rest of the game. Skipper QB Grant Olson hit Nate Shoemaker for a 45 yard TD to extend the lead to 17-7 in the third quarter.
Another rushing TD late in the 4th by Olson extended the Skipper lead 24-7 to put the game out of reach for the Trojans.
Your Wayzata Trojans football team (1-2) takes on the Minnetonka Skippers (3-0) in the annual Bay Bell Battle. The contest is scheduled to take place Friday, September 23rd at 7pm!
The Trojans hope to rebound against a tough loss to Prior Lake last week in their home opener. Both Minnetonka and Wayzata beat Shakopee soundly, and the game between the two historic rivals is typically very competitive.
