Input will be gathered via online survey and online town hall Zoom meetings.

Six historical organizations around Lake Minnetonka (Deephaven Historical Society, Excelsior-Lake Minnetonka Historical Society, Minnetonka Historical Society, The Museum of Lake Minnetonka, Wayzata Historical Society, and Westonka Historical Society) are currently exploring how they can better serve the people and history of the Lake Minnetonka region in the years and decades ahead. They are exploring ways to collaborate and partner with one another more effectively in the long-term. Options to be evaluated range from simple collaborations for certain activities to consolidation of services and everything in-between. The final product of this study will be a non-binding report that might be used as a guide in the future.

In particular, the six historical organizations are exploring these efforts to:

  • Enable them to more fully tell the story of the Lake Minnetonka area (broader range of topics, more in-depth story-telling, more points of access);
  • Ensure the future viability of their activities (ability to attract and retain volunteers, attract museum visitors, grow membership and fundraising efforts);
  • Allow them to operate as efficiently as possible so that resources can be more concentrated on their missions (e.g., coordinate administrative operations, collaborate on communications); and,
  • Enable them to expand their reach and engagement with the community at-large (e.g., educational programs and events, youth programs, hands-on activities, greater interactivity).

The six organizations invite all interested individuals to provide essential input to inform these efforts through a survey on SurveyMonkey. The survey contains 28 questions and takes about 20 minutes to complete. The survey will close on April 8, 2021. All responses will remain anonymous.

The six organizations request that any questions specific to the survey be directed to Arts Consulting Group, the independent tabulators, at or (888) 234.4236 Ext. 202. As an appreciation of completing this survey, three historically-themed gift baskets assembled by the organizations will be awarded to three people by random drawing on April 13, 2021, selected from those who complete this survey and opt to include their contact information at the end.

In addition, the six organizations will be hosting two virtual town hall meetings to discuss the future of the six historical organizations and some of the findings from the results of the survey. These town halls will be held via Zoom on Saturday, April 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and Monday, April 19 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The six organizations request that anyone interested in attending one or both of the town halls email Arts Consulting Group to RSVP at or call (888) 234.4236 Ext. 202. A Zoom link will be sent to all individuals who RSVP.

These activities are made possible in part by the people of Minnesota through a grant funded by an appropriation to the Minnesota Historical Society from the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
