From Wayzata Public Schools:

This summer, Wayzata Public School teachers are heading back to school to work in several professional development programs to improve classroom instruction skills.

The district is holding two major professional development training sessions this summer. The first one, the Summer Assessment Conference, was held June 9 and 10 at Central Middle School and included classroom instruction and break-out sessions. A total of 460 teachers attended this event.

The second training session is planned August 11 and 13 and is the Summer Technology Institute at Wayzata High School. Currently, there are 360 teachers registered for this event that includes 39 breakout sessions during the three mornings and classroom sessions each day.

A district Professional Development Day has also been planned for Sept. 1 during the district’s workshop week and includes training on the district’s new curriculum and instruction Web site, technology training and more. Many of the district’s teachers are also participating during the summer in other training opportunities like writing common assessments and CGI math training. In addition to these, more than 500 staff members have registered for 25 summer book groups.
