Both the Wayzata and Orono Police Departments have issued crime alerts recently:

Wayzata PD July 22, 2021:

“Wayzata and Long Lake, along with the entire metro area continue to see reports of theft from vehicles and theft of vehicles. They are taking place in driveways, parking ramps, and garages – to include underground parking garages. Do not leave anything of value inside your vehicle, including your car keys, wallet/purse, and anything of importance.

Also, over the past several days Wayzata Police have taken multiple reports of thefts from residential mailboxes...”

Orono PD July 21, 2021:

“There has been recent theft and burglary activity in which suspects are entering vehicles and occupied dwellings either by force or non-force and stealing purses, keys, cell phones, etc.  In several cases, the homeowner’s vehicles have been stolen as well.  There have been multiple attempted home entries and attempted thefts from vehicles parked in driveways as well.

These thefts and burglaries have been occurring in our police jurisdiction as well as neighboring cities and we want to advise our community to be aware and watchful.”

Wayzata PD July 16, 2021:

“Over the past several days across the metro, there has been an increase of theft of vehicles and theft from vehicles. Most thefts are occurring overnight. They are taking place in driveways, parking ramps, and garages. Some items recently stolen in these cases include purses, wallets,  – along with the car itself. ”
