The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office is reminding residents that October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Domestic Violence is not a private matter and it should not be kept behind closed doors. It is against the law, it is a violation of human rights and domestic violence will not be tolerated in Hennepin County.
If you are the victim of domestic violence and need help—call 911 immediately!
The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office is dedicated to advocacy and assisting victims of domestic abuse. Last year the Sheriff’s Office served nearly 1,800 Orders for Protection. All Sheriff’s Office 911 dispatchers and deputies on patrol are trained to help victims and respond to domestic incidents.
The Sheriff’s Office has established a strong partnership with Cornerstone, a violence prevention organization that provides resources and help to individuals and families affected by domestic violence. Last year, 2,338 women, 334 men, and 853 children received direct services from Cornerstone. The organization also provided 12,672 victims with an immediate connection to safe housing through the Day One MN Domestic Violence Crisis Line.
