The Center for Disease Control issued new guidelines for those who have received a vaccine significantly relaxing mask mandates except where required by local rules or laws.

“Fully vaccinated people can resume activities without wearing a mask or physically distancing, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance,” according to the most recent guidelines on

Governor Tim Walz was quick to issue similar guidance, “This great day is possible because vaccines have proven to be effective,” said Governor Walz. “Once you are fully vaccinated you are protected. You can confidently return to the people you love and things that you miss – all without a mask. The message is clear — get vaccinated and let’s put the pandemic behind us once and for all.”

“This is an important day for Minnesota and the country,” Minnesota Department of Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm said. “With millions of doses administered, we are seeing that vaccines work and are effective. But you need to roll up your sleeves and get the shots to get the protection.”

Here at home masks will still be required at Wayzata Public Schools according to Superintendant Chace Anderson as the district follows Minnesota Department of Education guidines, “Masks must continue to be worn by everyone inside our schools and buildings, at all indoor school events (prom, graduation, etc.), as well as on a school bus. This is in effect before, during and after the school day and also applies to outside organizations renting our buildings.”

The City of Wayzata indicated in a statement that vaccinated persons will not be required to wear a mask, “The City will be following the CDC and State’s guidelines in order to keep our staff and public safe.”
Local restaurants were quick to embrace the new guidelines, “You are no longer required to wear a face mask at Gianni’s Steakhouse, but please wear one if you are not vaccinated.”

McCormick’s also shared, “It’s the weekend and face masks are now optional! We look forward to seeing your smiling faces, and we do hope you will wear a mast when you move about the restaurant if you are not vaccinated.”
