Our team of professionals does that in two ways.
First--we pride ourselves on providing great journalism through our network of highly educated and accredited journalists, photo journalists and community contributors like you.Secondly, we offer world class real estate services through a global network of real estate professionals at Coldwell Banker.
We deliver our journalism and our real estate listings through an unmatched local distribution network which includes strategically located newspaper vending racks all over Wayzata.
Other distribution partners include local merchants, as well as restaurants & food / beverage providers. Furthermore readers should not overlook our digital first approach whereby our news and real estate offerings can be found online at Wayzata.com; & via our social media networks.
Our primary service area is for those who live in or frequent Wayzata, Wayzata Schools, zip code 55391, and beyond.
Journalism
We believe every community deserves great journalism, and since the late 1990's and the early 2000's that is what Wayzata.com has been all about. We cover the news that matters to this community.
We endeavor to create a more informed public by collecting and distributing high-quality news and information.
We hold those who serve and influence this community to a high standard.
We also hold ourselves to a high standard and expect excellence in journalism based on honest, fair and ethical reporting. We do so by working with accredited and classically trained photographers and journalists.
Real Estate
The Second part of our community building is through real estate activities including the resale of existing homes, small and large scale development, new construction, and in providing affordable housing opportunities.
Licensed Realtor and Wayzata resident Dan Gustafson offers his clients unmatched property acquisition and marketing solutions in the marketplace.
Gustafson is affiliated with the Coldwell Banker Global Luxury office in Wayzata, the premiere residential real estate firm in the Western Suburbs of Minneapolis & St. Paul. He provides lakeshore, luxury and relocation real estate services throughout Hennepin County & Greater Minnesota and does so at all price points.
The Coldwell Banker network of agents is located in a state of the art facility featuring over 300 efficient networking professionals, the latest real estate specific technology, the most up to date office equipment, a vast communication network, on-site mortgage, title and insurance, a huge real estate resource center, and much more.
Minnesota Statutes require that any advertising and or promotional materials by a Realtor must clearly and conspicuously display the real estate brokerage name, which is why you readily see information about our brokerage throughout our publications both online and in print.Blending Commerce & Journalism
Journalism at its core has always had a commercial component in order to fund the production and distribution of news and information.
It's as true today as it was when Ben Franklin sold Poor Richard’s Almanac in the Pennsylvania Gazette from 1732-1758.
Many traditional journalism outlets are further blending journalism with commerce including the New York Times Wirecutter division which is engaged in affiliate marketing; and News Corp whose acquisition of Move / Realtor.com provides opportunities for the public to view real estate listings and connect with real estate agents while blending News Corp content in the portal and real estate listings in traditional News Corp publications online and in print.
Grass Roots Inspiration
This publication is modeled after the bygone Essex Independent, published in Dan Gustafson’s adopted home town of Essex, Iowa. Dan relocated there in 7th grade.
Essex is a small town in the southwest corner of Iowa, known for growing corn, soybeans, and producing hogs and cattle.
The Independent was a broadsheet publication consisting of one piece of paper folded into 4 pages. Within was all the news that was fit to print including sports and academic achievements, politics, social activities and commercial offerings such as available real estate and small town merchant offerings. It was published from 1894-2021 when it was lost to the effects of the Covid Pandemic.Pandemic Effect on Wayzata
Also during the Covid-19 pandemic, both the Lakeshore Weekly News and Wayzata Life publications folded.
Wayzata.com publisher and Realtor Dan Gustafson stepped forward with a commitment to the community to provide funding stability to a locally owned and operated Wayzata news and information organization.
Past is Prologue
Journalism and real estate advertising go hand in hand, and Coldwell Banker has long been a supporter of local news. In fact the Lakeshore Weekly News existed almost entirely to accept advertising from the agents at Coldwell Banker and other brokerages in the 1980’s, 1990’s and 2000’s.
