The Wayzata Girls soccer team played Stillwater to a 1-1 stalemate through 2 halfs and an additional 20 minutes of overtime play. That’s when the drama really started as the Ponies and the Trojans were involved in a penalty kick shoot-out.

Who kicks the penalty shots for the Trojans is part of a season long process developed by Head Coach Tony Peszneker and his team. “Basically from out regular season after high school tryouts we are already starting to work on [penalty kicks] and we have a process for it.”

It’s all part of a larger process whereby the team tracks and selects the best penalty kick players over the course of the season, and the order in which they kick is left up to the girls. “It still comes to the nerves, the ability to finish, at this stage sometimes it’s more just like the flip of a coin.”

The Trojans will face Minnetonka at US Bank Stadium on Friday, November 2nd at 3pm. Minnetonka beat defending State Champion Eagen in a shoot-out as well.
