Book Signing: A Lifetime of Luck and Pluck By Bette Hammel

The Wayzata Historical Society invites you to hear from journalist, author, and longtime Wayzata resident Bette Hammel as we support her latest book signing on December 5th.

In a reading from her new memoir, A Lifetime of Luck and Pluck, Hammel will relate her 2016 essay “My Car Is Gone” with others ranging from her story covering the 1956 marriage of Grace Kelly to the Prince of Monaco to earlier experiences such as working in the Betty Crocker kitchens and becoming a radio broadcaster in Indiana and New York.

Returning home to Minnesota, she began a career in the advertising agency business. Her lucky day, she says, was meeting and marrying Richard Hammel, co-founder of HGA Architects & Engineers.

After his sudden death in 1986, she began writing about architecture for various magazines, and later became author of four books including Legendary Homes of Lake Minnetonka. She describes her new memoir as essays written in an “easybreezy” style. A Lifetime of Luck and Pluck, published by Nodin Press, will be available at all Twin City bookstores and priced at $16.95.
