Wayzata boys overwhelm Mounds View at State Soccer

CCX Sports staff: “Wayzata started the season by thumping Mounds View 8-0. They knew their state quarterfinal matchup against the Mustangs would likely be a lot closer. Wayzata dominated the first half, getting several good scoring chances. Their lone goal came on a great passing play as Drew Galinson crossed the ball to Ethan Wagner, who in turn headed it to Sadra Golzarian, who tapped it in. Trojans’ standout Patrick Weah got loose for a rocket of a shot to give the Trojans a 2-0 lead in the second half, only to have Mounds View answer just sixteen seconds later. Erik Williams scored twice down the stretch to help the Trojans pull away. Wayzata will face Maple Grove in the semifinals Monday at 8 a.m. at U.S. Bank Stadium. “
