The Greater Wayzata Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce Mike Lee has been named the 2017 Person of the Year. Considerations for the award include a Chamber member who is an active participant and supporter of Chamber activities, a long standing contributor to the economic, civic, commercial, and educational interests of the greater Wayzata area and someone who makes a difference to our community. 2017 marks the 51st Person of the Year celebration.
Mike was born in Minneapolis and raised in Wayzata. He later attended Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato where he met his wife Sue. Mike and Sue now live in Plymouth and are the parents of three children, Mollie, Maddie and Michael.
Mike’s civic contributions to the Wayzata area are countless. Mike is a lifelong area resident and business owner, with 30+ years of professional service with Wayzata families as an owner and funeral director at David Lee Funeral Home, which received the Exceptional Service Award in 2015. Mike has taken on many roles in the community, served on our Chamber Board, a Wayzata Rotary President, Chair of the Roger Miller Golf Classic event for years, and is actively involved in our large community events, the Chilly Open and James J. Hill Days.
Mike has contributed numerous hours of unselfish, unsolicited giving of his time to the greater community. He has snowplowed countless driveways at all hours of the night for friends in need and has mowed many lawns.
One nominator wrote, “Mike is always one of the first people to step up, rally people and do what needs to be done. He and his family have been business leaders in this community for a very long time.” Another said, “Mike is a friend to everybody- if Wayzata asks- Mike says yes!”
The Chamber will hold a Luncheon in Mike’s honor on Thursday October 19th at the Wayzata Country Club from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The cost is $25 for Chamber Members and Non-Members. Register online at wayzatchamber.com.
