With a mission of bringing the international spotlight to the Twin Cities and Lake Minnetonka while inspiring the next generation of sailors from Minnesota, the Wayzata Match Cup is poised to be a show stopper once again. “Having boats and sailors that are currently involved in the World Match Race Tour is something special for Lake Minnetonka,” commented Sam Rogers, Wayzata Match Cup organizer. “We are once again humbled by the support of our sponsors BMW of Minnetonka, RBA Consultants, Hotel Landing, SageView Advisory Group, 6Smith, Yeti and with help from the City of Wayzata and the local businesses that want to see this event succeed while bringing a unique event to our area. All we need now is some wind!”

A unique feature of the Wayzata Match Cup are the Pro-Am rides which allow for local sailors or sailing enthusiasts to team up with the sailors on a catamaran and compete in an actual race. The BMW of Minnetonka Pro-Am will take place on Thursday, August 10th, and more pro-am racing will take place throughout the weekend. “We are very excited to be part of the Wayzata Match Cup this year,” commented Jerry Moe, General Manager for Carousel Motor Group. “This is a unique inaugural event that brings a spotlight to Lake Minnetonka and provides BMW of Minnetonka a unique platform to partner with.”

With an impressive line-up of teams participating in 2017, the competition on the water promises to be intense, pushing the M32s to the limit providing a show for spectators and sponsors. Returning in 2017 is Team 1350 from Jamestown, Rhode Island, featuring a team of young rock stars, 1350 will look to use their experience from the World Match Race Tour and improve on their finish from last year.

Representing the USA in the 2017 Red Bull Youth America’s Cup and as current World Match Race Tour cardholders, E11EVEN Racing lead by Markus Edregan will make an appearance and use their experience to secure a win in Wayzata. The local team and winners of the 2016 Wayzata Match Cup will be lead by Sam Rogers and a team of professional sailors that will put on a show for the spectators. The last team in 2017 has former Olympian and current World Match Race Tour contender Sally Barkow as the skipper, along with a talented team of women sailors that will look to show they have plenty of muscle to win the title.

Sponsorship opportunities which include rides for the Pro-Am are still available.
