The Greater Wayzata Area Chamber of Commerce names Barry Petit 2011 Person of the Year

The Wayzata Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce Barry Petit has been named the 2011 Person of the Year. The Chamber will be holding a luncheon in his honor on Thursday, October 27 at the Wayzata Country Club. Barry will greet friends beginning at 11:30 a.m. Lunch will be served at noon followed by the program at 12:30 p.m. The cost is $20.00 for members and $25.00 for non members. Barry has been a successful architect in the greater Wayzata area business community for the past 25+years. He currently owns and operates his own architecture firm, Barry Petit & Associates.

Barry’s civic contributions to Wayzata are numerous and noteworthy. He served on the Planning Commission from 1984 to 1990. In 1990, Barry was elected to the City Council. He served on the council until he was elected Mayor in 1996. As Mayor, Barry championed the new Library and City Hall Development. Currently, Barry serves on the Wayzata Crime Prevention Coalition and Community Foundation Boards.

Barry has put his talents to work for Chamber projects as well. Barry was instrumental on the Bike Task Force which brought bike racks to town and installed a bike kiosk at the Dakota Light Rail Trail head. More recently, Barry designed the new lakeside platform at the Depot.

Below is an excerpt from one of the many nomination forms. “Barry’s indelible fingerprints have graced our community for decades. Because of his foresight, dedication, and uncompromising professional skills, Wayzata is an even better place to work, shop, live, and renew!”

Another nominator wrote, “Barry has a fine sense of humor and is always helpful. His personality and visionary leadership have been demonstrated in countless ways as he has tirelessly served Wayzata! He is Wayzata’s Person of the Year!”

The Greater Wayzata Area Chamber of Commerce is a vibrant membership organization serving businesses and individuals in the greater Wayzata area. The mission of the Chamber is to advocate and promote the interests of its Retail, Professional, and Community Members.
