Third annual Festival of Nations planned at WHS on April 15

Wayzata High School will host the third annual Festival of Nations on April 15 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Culinary Express area.

Last year’s event drew a crowd of 550 participants visiting the 28 countries represented. Staff, students and parents created booths to represent their different countries of origin, dressed in traditional ethnic clothing and had food samples available. This year, 30 to 35 countries are planned to be represented at the event and the featured foods to be served this year will be Greek and Indian cuisine provided by Bokhara and Santorini restaurants.

Entertainment at this year’s event will include Indian Bollywood dancing, a Scottish bagpiper, Russian dancing and Columbian dancing.

Event organizer and WHS ELL teacher Fauzia Siddiqui, said students and staff that attended last year couldn’t believe that so much diversity exists in the high school. “The event was a huge success because it highlighted the fact that we all have more similarities than differences,” added Siddiqui.

The Festival of Nations event is an opportunity to learn about world cultures, enjoy ethnic food, participate in different cultural activities, shop at a bazaar and enjoy music and dancing from different countries. The public is invited to attend dressed in attire representing their own cultural heritage. Admission to this event is free.
