OBITUARY: Susan M. Schmidt

Susan Mardelle (Burch) Schmidt

Our family’s most enthusiastic cheerleader slipped gently from this earth on December 15 at home on Carman’s Bay.

Born February 12, 1941.

Survived by husband of 48 years, Jim; children, Mark (Carlyn) Schmidt, Nancy (Greg) Riebel, Karen DeLorenzo; grandchildren, Tanner, Logan, Teagan and Kennedy; sister, Barb (Dave) Verville, and brother, Jack (Marion) Burch. Also survived by a much loved extended family and many cherished friends.

A brilliant wit, superb cook, legendary party diva, devoted hockey mom and grandma, ardent Vikings fan and tireless community volunteer:

Lions highest humanitarian service award (Melvin Jones Fellow); secretary Gillespie Center; Mound Westonka School Board (1986-88); and many years of service to the Mound community, Women of St. Martin’s and the Mrs. Jaycees.

Memorial service at 5 p.m. on Monday December 20, at St. Martins by-the-Lake Episcopal Church, 2801 Westwood Road, Minnetonka Beach followed by a celebration of Sue’s life from 6-9 p.m. at the Gillespie Community Center in Mound.

Memorials preferred to the Gillespie Center, which Sue treasured.
