WAYZATA BOY'S TENNIS 2009: Trojans Take Fourth Place at State

After winning its quarterfinal match at the Class AA state tournament, the Wayzata boys' tennis team lost twice on Wednesday to finish in fourth place.

The Trojans fell 6-1 to Rochester Mayo in a semifinal match as Max Reisman was the lone Trojans player to win his match at No. 2 singles. Reisman defeated Krishna Vege 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6). The Trojans lost in straight sets in the six other matches.

In the third place match, the Trojans wound up on the short side of a 5-2 score to Mounds View. Scott Vezzosi won his match at No. 4 singles handily 6-0, 6-1. The number three doubles tandem of Michael Ries and Jason Lee also won their match in three sets 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.

Individual play begins today at the Baseline Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota. Wayzata senior Ty Simcoe and junior Gary Notkin will open play in the doubles tournament at 10 a.m. against the Blaine duo of Ryan Holmgren and David Leafblad.
