East Middle School Wordmasters team earned second place in nation

Members of the East Middle School sixth-grade WordMasters Team recently earned second place in the nation in the competition.

The EMS sixth-grade WordMasters team members are: Sweta Bhoopatiraju, Hannah Slovut, Soniya Coutinho, Haley McNiff, Ian Masica, Shivonne McCarthy, Kelly Flugaur-Leavitt, Kaylyn Billmeyer, Joram Zaragoza, Alicia Wong, Emily Briggs and Samantha Lee. The team is coached by Kathy Simson.

WordMasters is a national competition for students in middle school and encourages growth in vocabulary and verbal reasoning. More than 4,200 school teams from 50 states participated last year. The competition addresses higher-level word-comprehension and logical abilities and helps students learn to think both analytically and metaphorically.
