WAYZATA SOFTBALL 2009: Trojans Start Section Play on Tuesday

By Matt Thomas, Wayzata.com Sports Reporter

The Wayzata softball team received the No. 3 seed in section 6AAA and will begin postseason play 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, at Donaldson Park in Richfield.

The Trojans will play the winner of the game between sixth seeded Robbinsdale Armstrong and 11th seeded Minneapolis Southwest.

Richfield is the No. 1 seed in the section. Hopkins received the No. 2 seed and Park Center is the No. 4 seed.

The Trojans—who finished the regular season with a record of 13-7—will rely heavily on the arm of senior pitcher Anna Twinem. Twinem pitched every inning of every game this season for the team. She gave up only 24 earned runs in 138 innings pitched, for an earned run average of 1.22. She also struck out 169 batters and walked only 37.

Offensively, the Trojans have several standouts who can be counted upon to help produce runs. Senior Allie Siu leads the team with a .443 batting average and also has 10 RBI and six stolen bases on the season.

Senior Nina Ferguson is hitting .419 with 12 RBI and senior Sarah Laudner leads the team in RBI with 16 and is also hitting .333 for the season.
