By Matt Thomas, Wayzata.com Sports Reporter

The Wayzata High School softball team got a clutch hit from sophomore Meg DuPuis and another sparkling pitching performance from senior Anna Twinem on Thursday afternoon to defeat Classic Lake Conference leading Minnetonka 1-0.

It was just the second conference loss for the Skippers, which fell to 8-2 in conference play. The Trojans improved to 11-5 overall and 6-5 in conference play.

Twinem threw her fifth complete game shutout of the season, by giving up just two hits and striking out eight. She has now struck out 135 batters in 111 innings pitched and has a season earned run average of 1.20.

DuPuis got the game-winning RBI when she singled in Twinem in the top of the sixth inning. DuPuis is currently second on the team in RBI with 11, which is five behind team-leader Sarah Laudner who has 16.

The Trojans will play in a tournament on Saturday at Benilde-St. Margaret’s before finishing up the regular season on Wednesday, May 13, against Hopkins.
