WAYZATA SOFTBALL 2009: Twinem Reaches 100 Strikeouts in 5-1 Victory

By Matt Thomas, Wayzata.com Sports Reporter

Wayzata senior pitcher Anna Twinem reached the 100 strikeout mark for the season on Thursday as the Trojans improved to 9-3 on the season with a 5-1 victory over the Edina Hornets.

Twinem, who has pitched every inning of every game thus far for the Trojans, gave up five hits and struck out five in seven innings of work on Thursday. The five strikeouts gave her 101 for the season and her earned run average now sits at 1.63.

Twinem received some run support thanks in part to a pair of sophomores. Sophomore Meg DuPuis went 2 for 4 with two doubles and two RBI's. Sophomore Bri Adams went 2 for 4 with a solo homerun.

A pair of seniors - Sarah Laudner and Allie Siu - also chipped in offensively. Laudner went 3 for 4 at the plate and now has eight hits in her last 13 at bats to raise her season batting average to .405. Siu continues to lead the team in hitting with a .488 batting average after going 2 for 3 on Thursday afternoon.

The win pulls the Trojans to within two games of first place Minnetonka, after the Skippers suffered their first conference loss of the season on Thursday, 4-0 to Hopkins. The Skippers still sit atop the conference standings at 6-1, with the Trojans and Royals lurking behind at 4-3.

The Trojans and Royals will break that second place tie on Friday when the two teams meet at Hopkins at 4:15 p.m.
