WAYZATA PUBLIC SCHOOLS: Young Scientist Round Table planned

From Wayzata Public Schools:

A Young Scientist Round Table has been planned on Tuesday, April 7 at 7 p.m. at Central Middle School. Dr. Allen Van Beek, plastic and reconstructive surgeon, will present ‘Microsurgery: Working Small for Big Results.”

Van Beek is the surgeon who reattached the arms of North Dakota resident John Thompson, who in 1992 had both his arms torn off in a farm accident. Van Beek will discuss the science of microsurgery from the operating microscope to the nature of special organs like blood vessels, nerves and skin and talk about the skills needed to become a microsurgeon.

Following the presentation is the Teen Round Table from 8:10 to 8:40 p.m. where students are invited to meet with the speaker to discuss the topic in more depth. The entire program will be videotaped for playback on ED's TV.

There is no registration necessary for Young Scientist Round Table and the program is open to students and their parents at no charge.
