WAYZATA COMMUNITY SAILING CENTER: ISM Team Race regatta April 18-19

Hello Parents/Guardians of HS Sailors,

If you can believe it, your children were in the water sailing today! I told them to make sure not to try to sail over the ice though.

There are some upcoming regattas that are going to require communication between you all, your children, and me and Dave in order to be successful.

The first of these events is the ISM Team Race regatta on April 18-19. This is event is held at the Minnetonka Yacht Club. This is a regatta that requires a 6 person team, but will allow mixed-school teams. Wayzata should plan on sending a team, and Breck/Hopkins/St. Thomas will send a mixed team. As per our regatta travel policy, a male and female chaperon is required for each team. This should be a fun event both for your children to compete in, and for you to observe. I will not be coaching at this particular event due to a prior commitment, but my good friend Mark Swift will be. Registration costs will be $50 per sailor.

The second, and more complicated to plan, event is the Mallory Qualifier on April 25-26, hosted by the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club in Detroit, MI. This is a national championship qualifier, and a team of at least 4 sailors from one school is required. Wayzata should have no issue fielding a team, and Hopkins should be able to as well. If Breck can find 1 more sailor able to attend, Breck could field a team as well. Coach Dave will be coaching this event, and will be flying. In order for your children to go, a female and male chaperone is required to travel with each team. Parents are responsible for arranging their children's travel and lodging. It is a 12 hour drive, but flight is also an option. Registration for this regatta must be postmarked by Monday the 12th. It is very important that you and your children discuss this before Friday(tomorrow). If not before then, I will not be able to assist in the planning.

Important Dates:

April 12th Mallory Registration Due
April 18-19th ISM Team Race Regatta @ Minnetonka Yacht Club
April 25-26th Mallory Qualifier @ Grosse Pointe Yacht Club (In Detroit)

More information and the NOR's for these regattas can be obtained from the MISSA website.

Please talk to your children and to each other as soon as possible about these events, traveling to these events, and about who will be chaperoning.

Also, on the first day of practice, I asked your children to give you a letter that I wrote. Please check with them to be sure you got a copy.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me or Dave.
Thank you,
