Spring has sprung – which means the time has come for Wayzata residents to join together in tidying up the neighborhood and kicking trash to the curb. The City of Wayzata has several upcoming events to help Wayzata residents with such tasks.

A curbside household pickup with be held on Saturday, May 2, 2009 for residents who pay for recycling and garbage service on their monthly utility bills. The pickup will start at 7:00 a.m. rain or shine. Additionally, residents can schedule appliances and electronics to be included in the pickup. This action requires prior arrangement with Randy’s Sanitation.

The City of Wayzata’s compost site at Public Works is open to collect soft-bodied yard waste such as grass and leaves. Wayzata residents must obtain an annual permit which is available at City Hall. The permit also allows residents access to free wood chips at the compost site.

The water mains and fire hydrants in Wayzata are scheduled to be flushed from April 20 through May 1. The Wayzata Utility Department states that this exercise is to “remove any particulate matter that may have built up in the water mains … and also to insure that all the fire hydrants on the water system are operating properly.”

As some residents may have already noticed, a portion of the Luce Line State Trail was closed March 21, 2009. The trail, between Old Long Lake Road in Wayzata and Harden/Green Glen Park in Long Lake, is expected to reopen around the middle of May. The horse trail was closed March 23, 2009 due to unsuitable conditions. That stretch of trail, from Vicksburg Lane to Winsted, is also expected to reopen in May.
