Ask Dan! - How do you pronounce Wayzata?

Dan,

How do you pronounce Wayzata? We are newly relocated and can't figure it out.

Jim and Sarah

Hi Jim and Sarah,

As we say up here in Minnesota, that question ain't too bad.

Brandon and Brenda Walsh couldn't get it right after they moved from 55391 to 90210. So many times we see Wayzata spelled out in in different letters, and with dashes and spaces to help you place the correct emphasis on this syllable and vowel. Here are just a few examples:

We Wayzatians see it bantered about in emails titled "Do you speak Minnesotan?" We see slick ads for some local realtor with a flashy and attractive model going on and on and about said realtor's abilities to help you buy and sell, only to mispronounce it and lose all credibility. Seems like the Lexus commercials when they first came out said Wayzata wrong.

  • waɪˈzɛtə is how wikipedia says to pronounce it, but that sure doesn't help.
  • Wise-etta is how the Chamber of Commerce says to pronounce it.
  • Pronounced @#$%! by anyone from out of state

So here once and for all, the official, unofficial way to pronounce Wayzata:

Why-ZET-ta

And if you still don't get it, call me at 952-473-5800 and ask.

Dan

Game recap for Wayzata vs. Rochester Century 42-0

Haven't heard back from Coach Anderson in a request for the game stats for last nights football game between your Wayzata Trojans and Rochester Century. From the score and the stats available in Saturday's fish wrap factories east and west side of the river, it was a real thumping.

Wayzata - Paul Hoffer recovered a fumble in the end zone. Strangehoener added the extra point.

Second Quarter:

Wayzata - Kevin Knight scampered up the field with a 74 yard run. Strangehoener extra point.
Wayzata - Chris Kroeten scored on a 1 yard run. Strangehoener extra point.

Make sure you get out and see the Trojans as the play their arch rivals the Skippers in Minnetonka next Friday night. It is going to be one of the best 8 games to happen in the entire metro area this whole season. Which reminds me, my two favorite teams are the Wayzata Trojans and who ever is playing the Skippers. Guess that's Wayzata on both counts this week.

Wayzata Rotary's Annual Charity Car Show

It's that time of year again: James J. Hill Days are right around the corner. That also means that a favorite staple of the activities is the Wayzata Rotary's Annual Charity Car Show. Look for the event on Mill Street, one block north of Lake Street in downtown Wayzata between Superior Blvd and Broadway. map The admission Price is $15 per car, and spectators get in for FREE!

You will see hundreds of vintage, classic, custom, foreign and specialty cars on display. Proceeds from the event will benefit local and international humanitarian projects. The Auto Show is held in conjunction with James J Hill Days, a family festival featuring art, music, food, kids' carnival, parade and other fun events on the shores of beautiful Lake Minnetonka. Wayzata Football Steam Rolls Rochester Century 42-0

Wayzata Football wins big over Rochester Century 42-0.

Century's Blade Faust fights off a Wayzata tackle for a short gain during their game Friday night at Century High School. Scott Jacobson/Post-Bulletin

This 42-0 victory was not surprise to the Wayzata fan base. Keep in mind that the Classic Lake Conference was created in the mid 90's in a major desertion from the Lake Conference. Other teams in the area have been cool to the idea of joining the Classic Lake in recent years. As a result, Wayzata and the other 4 schools that make up the conference have to play a number of non-conference games against sometimes unworthy or unevenly matched oppornents. Rochester Century just got run over by a steamroller in Wayzata. Watch for it to happen again as the play Minneapolis North later in the season.
